THEMA1

Accelerating the transition to a Low Carbon Society

The Berlin-based think/do tank THEMA1 is currently focussing its activities on accelerating the transition to a low carbon society. In 2004 and 2005, as part of a broad alliance of representatives from the domains of politics, economics, science and society, THEMA1 initiated a nationwide debate on the health risks behind particulate matter in German cities. In May 2007 THEMA1 launched the Dialogforum Klimafreundliche Marktwirtschaft (Dialogue Forum Low Carbon Society). The sixth international dialogue forum will take place mid March 2010 in Berlin (PCF World Summit / International Approaches to Product Carbon Footprinting and Carbon Labelling).

THEMA1 provides for the management of the PCF Pilot Project Germany and for coordination of the project board. As the main point of contact for the PCF Pilot Project Germany, THEMA1 is in constant discussion with representatives from politics, stakeholders and companies.

Rasmus Prieß, Project Leader PCF Pilot Project Germany, Berlin:

“In the PCF Pilot Project Germany, participating trade, manufacturing and service provider companies together gain practical experiences in assessing and communicating so-called Product Carbon Footprints. This innovative form of cooperation in a cross-industry consortium of business, science and NGO representatives with international initiatives ensures comparable results and relevant statements on methods and labelling.”
